Champion takes the lead on offshore project in Abu Dhabi
AMC has begun offshore installation activities on a major subsea project in Abu Dhabi, moving the programme from engineering and fabrication into its marine execution phase.
The project, for a local oil company, centres on approximately 50 km of subsea pipeline systems around an island development off the coast of Abu Dhabi. Once installed, the new infrastructure will connect offshore production areas with processing facilities and support the continued modernisation of the offshore network.
The scale of the work is significant. Around 35 km of 30-inch lined pipe and 15 km of 16-inch lined pipe form the core of the system, alongside associated flowlines, subsea connections and testing.

From design to offshore delivery
The project brings together complementary capabilities from AMC and sister company Lamprell across two distinct phases of delivery. Lamprell completed the detailed design, engineering, procurement and fabrication scope, including specialist components such as risers, subsea spools, retrofit clamps and sleepers.
With that work complete, responsibility has now moved offshore. AMC is delivering the pipelay and flowline installation, subsea connections and testing, with Champion, its heavy-lift, pipelay and subsea construction vessel, at the centre of the campaign.
The progression from engineering and fabrication into marine installation illustrates how the two businesses can work together across a complex offshore project while retaining clear responsibility for their respective scopes.
Champion relocated to the UAE recently after completing a programme of offshore work in Saudi Arabia. The vessel is now operating in the field and is expected to spend approximately two months completing the planned pipeline installation scope.

Its deployment marks an important milestone in AMC’s development. This is Champion’s first pipelay campaign under AMC’s full operational management, bringing vessel operations, project delivery and offshore execution together under the AMC team.
“This project shows the strength of the collaboration between AMC and Lamprell. Champion’s role in the offshore campaign is an important step for AMC and reflects the marine capability we are continuing to build across the business.”

Building capability through delivery
The campaign builds on Champion’s recent work in Saudi Arabia and extends the vessel’s operating track record under AMC into the UAE. It also gives the business the opportunity to manage a complete offshore pipelay and subsea installation scope under its own operational control.
Further opportunities for Champion are already being explored in the region ahead of its planned drydock in the first quarter of 2027, when maintenance and rebranding activities are scheduled.
The immediate focus is on the offshore campaign now underway, taking a complex pipeline system from design and fabrication through to installation in the field.
In doing so, the project demonstrates the strength of integrated delivery across AMC, Lamprell and the wider Algihaz Energy group.
