Connecting an island community to the national grid

Algihaz Marine Contractors (AMC), working alongside its sister company Algihaz Contracting, recently completed a major subsea power cable project in the Red Sea for a key client in Saudi Arabia.

The project involved the engineering, transportation and installation of more than 300 km of submarine power cables and over 110 km of fibre-optic cables, connecting an island community to the mainland electricity network. Delivered across a challenging marine environment, the scope required careful planning, close coordination between onshore and offshore teams, and the safe execution of complex installation activities.

For AMC, the project provided an opportunity to demonstrate the value of close collaboration between marine and onshore delivery teams. Working alongside Algihaz Contracting and specialist partners, AMC was responsible for supporting the offshore execution phase, helping ensure that installation activities were completed safely, efficiently and in line with project requirements.

The project was delivered on schedule and achieved more than 675,000 man-hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI), reflecting the strong safety culture maintained by all teams involved.

Beyond the technical achievement, the project represents an important infrastructure development, improving access to reliable power for a remote island community and supporting wider economic and social development in the region.

As AMC continues to grow its portfolio across the Middle East, projects such as this demonstrate the importance of integrating engineering, project management and offshore execution to successfully deliver complex marine infrastructure.
