Growing leaders for a growing business

As AMC expands across the Middle East and India, the demands placed on its leaders are changing with it. Teams are growing, projects increasingly cross functions and geographies, and managers are being asked to lead in a more complex operating environment.

Ten AMC leaders have so far taken part in the Algihaz Energy Leadership Development Journey, led by John Macdonald, CHRO of Algihaz Energy Holding. The programme is designed for existing and recently promoted leaders, as well as high-potential employees preparing for broader responsibilities.

Leadership in practice

The programme moves from personal leadership into the practical challenges of managing others. Five half-day workshops cover self-awareness, emotional intelligence, communication and influence, stakeholder management, delegation, managing performance, tackling difficult conversations and encouraging a coaching style of leadership, supported by individual coaching sessions that drill down into personal needs.

The emphasis is firmly on application. Participants are encouraged to take what they learn back into their roles and use it in the situations they face every day.

“Strong leadership becomes more important as a business grows. We want our leaders to have high levels of self-awareness so that they appreciate the impact of their behaviour on other people. We also want them to have practical tools to lead teams, communicate clearly and make timely, informed decisions.”

The programme also supports a broader priority across AMC’s markets: building capability in-country and developing leadership talent locally as operations expand.

That has particular relevance for a business working across Saudi Arabia, the UAE and India, where project delivery depends on leaders who can work across cultures, functions and company boundaries while maintaining clear standards and strong team performance.

Developing capability from within

AMC’s participation reflects a wider investment in the people who will lead its next phase of growth. Leadership development is not treated as a one-off intervention, but as part of building stronger teams and creating a deeper pipeline of talent across the business.

“It has been really encouraging to see the level of engagement in the programme. Of course, the acid test comes 6-12 months from now if we see that  the learning has changed behaviour in the form of better conversations, clearer expectations and stronger, collaborative teams. That is where leadership development makes a difference.”

With ten AMC leaders already participating, the programme is helping strengthen the management capability needed to support continued growth, while contributing to the development of local talent across the markets in which AMC operates.
